Yup! But I wouldn't call it a spots bar. No big screens.
I agree....Definitely call ahead for large parties.
God, no
Nope
Maybe, but the chowder us off the hook here, don't bother with chili
No reservations, although you can do call ahead seating, they'll put your name on the waiting list when you call
Yes they do, usually with the local sports on.
Not sure but their Cornwallis sandwich grilled is the best ever!!
Pretty sure they do
Yes. Busy restaurant. Great bar too.
They are the coolest pub and so famous for their burgers but we go back OVER AND OVER for their fillet! It's the best I've ever had even from fancy steakhouses this is so much better!
Great service, the appetizers are amazing. Great food. Definitely coming back
Their curbside service during covid has been spectacular. Their team has adapted to these circumstances and continued to provide the excellent quality and customer service.
People are always bragging about this place. It was a decent hamburger. Big enough to share with a friend for lunch. But 12.50 for a burger with no fries? Plus once u add on toppings the price goes up. I make a better burger at home. As for the truffle aolie it was disgusting. I don't know if it went rancid. It smelled and tasked like acrylic nail salon smell. Horrid. The people were not to friendly when taking out order or bring us our food to the car. Wont be back.
This place has been a landmark of a pub for decades. Came here this Saturday for lunch and it didnt disappoint. The clam chowder is always delicious. They are known for great seafood and burgers so I had a tough choice. I decided to go with the jumbo shrimp this time. They were great! The newer fries are better than the shoestring fries they used to have and the coleslaw was great too. No complaints. Cant wait to come back.
The food was ok but it used to be much better. I was also charged for a $10 glass of wine that no one at our table ordered but I didn't notice before I paid because the server was rising us because that were busy. The server was not very friendly and was hinting about her tip. It was not a good experience for what we paid. We won't be returning.
Large order of 22 lunches. All typed out with names and exactly what each person wanted. I was assured that it was not a problem and if there were any questions I would get a call. Quite a few items missing in the order but we were charged for some of them. When I called and spoke with the manager Juan. He was quick to defend the order stating that he checked everything himself. After spending $450 plus giving them a 15% tip on a takeout order at least he could have taken the items in question off the bill. When someone orders a hamburger without a bun and only received the toppings and no burger 🤷♀️ there should be some consideration. Who want to eat just the toppings? Disappointed in Juan.
The burgers are outstanding, so many add-ons to chose from. The fried pickle chips were excellent, the service was attentive. Great stop if your hungry.
Everything was SO good! Our server Erin wasd amazing; she's very helpful and fun! The chicken pot pie is exceptional, the cookie dessert is decadent, and they have a phenomenal drink menu! Highly recommend!
Way too red. I had to use my flashlight app to read the menu and bill. Service was okay. Food was okay. I had a prime rib. Couldn't really see the food, which was a little disconcerting, but it tasted fine.
Good food, good atmosphere, good fun. A little busy but still great. Definitely going to go back
The burgers are out of this world. The Mac N cheese is also one of the best I have had. Good service. Good atmosphere. Generally all around perfect.
I have never had a bad meal at RedCoat. The burgers are absolutely top shelf... Make sure you spring for the Piedmont. The place is always booked so try to call ahead, sneak into the back and eat at the bar or make a special happy hour trip!
So impressed with your staff last night! Your guys were literally running out orders to people cars. We had an awesome “picnic” dinner and it was a much needed break from all this craziness! Great job! You have always been my favorite spot when I cruise Woodward and I am sure our friends that came with us will be back!
Good food, pleasant and accommodating server. Always a nice experience at the Redcoat. Only problem was that we were seated right across from the door so whenever someone came in or left we were blasted by ice cold air...hence the entire meal was consumed while wearing our coats.
Awful experience. Will not be back. I spent 200 on food here, they forgot to give us one bag when we picked it up, so we called them and I drove the 15 minutes back to pick ip the other food, called them when I got there and they said “your food will be right out.”After 1 hour and 10 minutes of sitting in my car waiting, I finally go in myself to see what’s up, and they haven’t even started making the food (two Mac and cheeses and a Sheppard’s pie, not hard.) I got the pie, had to ask for a refund for the macs they had no intention of making. I spent 3 hours of my day trying to get food from them, and they barely apologized for the mishap.
Redcoat Tavern is one of those restaurants where you can leave satisfied. Not only is the food delicious but the staff is friendly. This is one of my wife's favorite restaurants so we visit several times a year but on some occasions the wait is too long. Great presentation!!!
2nd time here 1st time carryout, and it was JUST as great as when I was there in person. I introduced my wife to it and she's in love now as I am. The curbside gentleman was very mannerable and professional. This is a Royal Oak Gem keep up the great work!
Just picture the old Beef Carvers restaurant with red lighting...with that said, I didn't like the decor and think the restaurant could use some upgrades BUT the food and service was good. I give their chicken wings an eight but the cole slaw was on point! It was very good!
Great burgers! For appetizers, I highly recommend the calamari and buffalo chicken wings and tenders. I enjoyed it so much, I went right back the next week. It tends to be packed on Saturday’s, so arrive early or after 10pm. After 10pm, it slows down.
My friend from out of town was adamant to visit this place a few weeks ago. Awesome burgers, fries and Belgian beers. The ambiance at Red Coat is a bit ‘taverny’ but the food is delicious.
Great food and burgers. Just go here. It's awesome. Always sit at the bar for better service wherever you go. The servers are great here but busy during dinner.
I ordered takeout today for my husband’s birthday and had a great experience. Customer service is fantastic, and the food is delicious. 😋 Definitely recommend the Brassery burger!
This is just about my favorite spot. I've been coming here since I was a little kid. I moved out of town years ago, and it doesn't matter how many years apart my visits are, it's always the same... Brilliant. Simply Brilliant.Without bragging at all, I've been to New England/Boston, Seattle, and the REAL England... And this place seriously sets the bar for all other Clam Chowders. I'm pretty sure it's impossible to improve upon their recipe in any way. If you like clam chowder, GET IT!My only regret, is the once in a blue moon that I'm actually in Michigan, I can never seem to nab a slice of their incredible Key Lime Pie. It's more illusive than Big Foot. Ok, I'm done gushing about this place. Simply put, if you've been thinking about going here, just go.. You seriously won't regret it.
The food here is fantastic. The 2 stars is based solely on the covid take out service. We were told over the phone they would bring the food out to the car and to call if it took more than a minute. Their was no clear place to go for pickup orders so I called in to see if there was a pick up parking space. The person on the phone was rude, cut me off to get me name and hung up after telling me they would be out soon. Most people for pick up seemed to be sitting outside the door. So that's where I sat in the summer heat. The poor delivery food runner seemed so stressed. There are plenty of other burger places.
Cool ambience sort of. Good burger and huge mussels. Fish and chips seamed a little fishy. Good service and always pretty busy because of the awesome burgers and mac.
It was my 1st time here and i enjoyed it. Our waiter was Shawn i believe and he was patient and very helpful with me on ordering. The food and drinks was delicious and i will definitely go back here again.
Wearing a mask was obviously optional for the staff. Food was poor in taste. Used to love this place, but I won’t be back. Staff standing in the kitchen with their mask off as well as bar staff.
This place is delicious. Wish it was less crowded. Felt like I was sitting with the people next to us. Hard to have a conversation with ears everywhere.
The Redcoat Tavern was a phenomenal lunch spot for me on a random Friday afternoon. I had to try one of their legendary burgers and was not let down! I also got a side of onion rings - which is an understatement - as a huge mound of homemade onion rings come to your table...enough for 4 people! Be weary on the additional charges for additions to your burger. While noted that toppings are extra, the amounts are random. A burger and onion rings came out to $37 after tip.
So here's the thing. This place is known for its burgers and fries. The burgers are huge, juicy, flavorful. The unique onion-y mayo topping is to die for. There are a variety of other toppings too, but for the experience they are known for, get your burger with the lettuce, tomato, mayo sauce. The fries are super thin, salty, and hot enough to burn your tongue. Delicious. Other restaurants in the area claim to copy-cat the "Red Coat Tavern" burgers and fries for a reason, because this place does it right. It's crowded on the weekend, the red-lighting is a little weird, but it's the tradition and ambiance of this place.
Haven't ate there in a long time. But its still good.
First time here. In town from Atlanta. Many beautiful choices of 🍺. The BEST burger I've had in years. Service and food was top notch. I will definitely be back whenever in Detroit.
Best beer battered onion rings in town.I had a burger...made perfectly. My husband had a corned beef sandwich. He also had an appetizer...sausage wrapped egg. I forgot the name of it.Then we had raspberry bread pudding.Everything was awesome including the staff.
Great service. Great food. Always busy but the Best Burger and onion rings!
I have been going to Redcoat for at least 10 years. The past year I've had quite a few bad experiences, but I always seem to get a good burger every now and then, which keeps me coming back. Tonight, 3/2, I placed a carry out order for a burger to be cooked medium. The person taking my order confirmed how I wanted it cooked - medium. Long story short, I pay for the burger, go home and open the carry out box, and behold...a well-done cooked burger - very dry and no flavor. $12 out the window. Another disappointment from Redcoat - one too many. I won't be going back.
Great burgers. Can get pricey but it's good enough to keep going back
My husband says that Red Coat has the best burger he's ever had. And mind you, my husband orders burgers 95% of the time we go out to eat. So they must be good. Finally I gave in and tried one tonight and it was by far the best burger I had. It was so messy, but satisfying. I love the atmosphere of this place, but no matter when you go it's gonna be really busy. Enjoy!
We were looking for great burgers and boy did we find it! There was a slight line when we entered but were seated quickly. The place is small but intimate. We had the buffalo wings as an app- by far the best hot wings. Perfect combination of sauce, crispness and juiciness. There were six wings in total, equal number of flats and drums. Pictured here is the “Original Redcoat Special Hamburger.” Great portion, bigger than the palm of my hand. I’m not a big beef eater but by far the best burger I’ve had in years. Fries are not included but portions are big enough for two. Will return again!!!!
The burgers are amazing! There's a reason Red Coat Tavern has been a staple for many, many years...quality food are excellent service
The best burgers in Detroit, hands down!
Experience started in the parking lot. After getting out the car I was greeted by a young man getting out of his car. Unbeknownst he would be our attendant after we were seated. Service was great! Food was great! Burger with fried egg, guacamole, red onion (raw), lettuce and tomato on a bun. Marvelous!
Really cool place! It is a bit cramped and dark but the burgers are really good as well as their onion rings! The burgers do not come with a side so order a appetizer and split it (the apps are huge). The quality of the burger meat was really good.
Ordered a few hundred dollars worth of food for the ICU tonight. I had ordered a simple cheeseburger with nothing on it. Pretty easy or so it would seem. Every burger we got was slopped together with everything on them and not one plain cheese. How hard is it to read the order? Hungry and disappointed.
A broad menu, but a wheelhouse featuring their burgers and New England Clam Chowder. Chef Ollie puts soul and skill into every dish, the staff are old school and attentive. The entire production is a time capsule experience for the uninitiated. One of the last of the old school sixties supper style clubs. Dark throughout with red lighting. Faux leather. It has a great fireplace and stiff drinks!! It has huge and devoted fan base. Everyday is busy at the Red Coat,. the bar and dining room are packed for lunch, happy hour and dinner. It is well worth your while to go to this iconic bar and restaurant!
Great food. Great service.
Coffee tasted like it was 2days old Shrimp was greasy the redcoat tavern burger was blaugh very dissatisfied won't go back 🤮
An incredible burger experience unlike anything you’ve experienced before. Always fresh, always friendly, and an equally exciting and diverse bar. Your time and money is always well spent!!
Few times had decent food, but after receiving a burger close to raw when asking for well done I can never go back.
I love Red Coat Tavern. The food is always good. Hot and Fresh!! Waitresses were very nice. We have been trying to get back there for a while, but it's hard when the place is so popular. The crowd/wait can be ridiculous. But worth the wait.
